Tip of the month #2: distance filter

The second most frequent question we get at trivago is about how to find a hotel which is very close to the city center. To help make your research easier, we have explained below how to go about figuring this out, by choosing from among several options:

Let´s start with an example! Imagine you want a hotel which is very close to a specific hot spot or to the city's center. To start, type into the trivago search the name of the destination you wish to travel to, for example, “Barcelona” and choose your dates for checking-in and checking-out-- and then click “search”.

Automatically, a list of the most popular hotels in that city, within a 10 mile radius of the city center will appear. Keep in mind: If you prefer see the hotels ordered by cheapest to most expensive, you just need to click “price” in top right-hand corner. By doing so, you will see the hotel list re-adjust itself to be ordered by the best deals. Then, on the left-hand side of the screen, you have the possibility to use our filters to help customize the resulting list according to your needs. The key filter in this case being the “distance” filter.

                            

Now 3 features which will help you:

1) Distance filter: Within 10 miles of the city center or to your desired area, via the “point of interest” filter (POI)

2) POI: You are able to select the point of interest within our drop-down list  by choosing the one which fits best into your travels.

3) Address: Type in a precise address

Case #1: Distance filter - Lets assume you're looking for a 4-stars hotel within 1.5 miles of the city center: By sliding the distance filter over to 1.5 miles, the hotel list will automatically change its results to only show the hotels which fall within the selected radius.The results will be sorted by popularity, however, if you want to view the results closest distance to the city center, you just need to click on the drop-down menu in the  top right-hand corner to sort by “distance.”

How can you view how far away the hotel is from the city center? Next to the main photo and beside the hotel's rating you will find the total miles outlined.

                               

Case #2: Point of Interest filter - You're looking for a 4-stars hotel near to a specific destination in Barcelona: On the drop-down menu you have the option to choose from a list which includes the city's most popular attractions. You only need to choose one in order to have a list of the closest accommodations appear. Don't forget, you now also have the option  to sort the results by either “price” or “distance.”

                          

Case #3: Address - In the case that you are looking for a 4-stars hotel near to a specific street: You only need to type in the address of the street you are looking for. Again, remember that it is up to you how you choose to view these results-- you can sort them by either the lowest price or by distance to the address you've outlined--you only need to by select either price” and “distance.”
