Fresh powder, long runs, short queues at the ski lifts and a lot of sun – those are the best conditions for skiing and snowboarding. When the hotel also offers a perfect combination of comfort, service, and location, that’s when a winter stay in the mountains becomes the perfect escape. The hotel price comparison website trivago presents ten luxury hotels, each located in one of Europe’s most popular ski resorts, and offering their guests spa treatments, gourmet restaurants, first-class service and the best locations for winter sports. From Spain’s Baqueira Beret and France’s Chamonix mountain regions, to the trendy ski resorts of Switzerland and Austria, each of these hotels offers an unforgettable experience, both on and off the pistes.

The Sport- and Wellness-Hotel Stock is a stylish four-star hotel in the ski town of Tux-Finkenberg, Austria. One of the main highlights of this family-run hotel is a 4000-square-foot spa with a heated outdoor pool, massage and spa services. The in-house restaurant serves a wide selection of Austrian, Mediterranean and Far Eastern cuisines, accompanied by the hotel’s distinctive Mount Stock red, white and dessert wines. With 245 kilometres of slopes, ski enthusiasts will never run out of fresh snow or slopes to explore.

The castle-like hotel Das Kranzbach is located 1030 metres above sea level in Krün, near the Bavarian region of Garmisch-Partenkirschen. Its idyllic location is ideal for leisurely walks or cross-country skiing through the gorgeous winter scenery. Each room is elegantly furnished, and harmony was clearly a key design element. The Garmisch-Partenkirchen region has a lot to offer ski fans, including the Kandahar Track, the site of many Nordic and alpine ski races. The World Alpine Ski Championships will also be returning to Garmisch this year, from February 7th to 20th, making this an excellent opportunity to see some world-class skiing.

The Alpen-Karawanserai Time Design Hotel can be found in Salbach Hinterglemm in Salzburg, Austria. This four-star hotel is rich in Austrian charm, and takes a new approach to spa treatments by integrating Eastern holistic approaches to maintaining and improving body and spirit. With over 50 different spa treatments and intriguing room themes such as ‘spice road’, ‘silk road’, and ‘amber road’, the Alpen-Karawanserai takes relaxation and comfort seriously. Outside and around the hotel,  200 kilometres of ski slopes abound, offering great trails and runs for even the most professional of skiers. Night owls, meanwhile, will enjoy the many après-ski bars and nightclubs that Saalbach Hinterglemm has to offer.

The elegant Hotel Val de Neu is located in the Spanish winter sport town of Baqueira, in the western Pyrenees. The interior of this five-star hotel is perfectly suited to its scenic surroundings – natural elements such as wood and stone are used to create simple yet beautiful aesthetic designs for the lobby and guest rooms. A heated outdoor Jacuzzi invites guests to relax in the evening with a panoramic view of the mountains. The Baqueira Beret ski resort is Spain’s trendiest winter hotspot, and even King Juan Carlos and the royal family are regularly spotted spending their holidays there. With 120 kilometres of well-preserved slopes, this is an excellent place for snow enthusiasts to improve or show off their ski and snowboard skills.

The Sheraton Davos Hotel Waldhuus is a serene four-star hotel on the edge of Davos-Platz. Built according to typical Swiss-chalet design ideals, this hotel is practically bursting with charm. The inhouse Matta Bar gives guests the opportunity to sit by the large fireplace and enjoy drinks while listening to live piano music. Davos is home to seven Swiss heritage sites, and has a world-class reputation for skiing, thanks to the 300 kilometres of ski and mountain trails of the Davos Klosters.

At the foot of the Aiguille du Midi in the Mont Blanc massif lies the Les Aiglons Resort and Spa. The hotel’s self-declared mission is to reach new heights in comfort and design, and has taken bold steps towards achieving this goal by combing elements such as light, glass, wood, and other organic materials to create a soothing, harmonious environment. One of the hotel’s highlights is its heated outdoor pool, from which guests have an unrivalled view of the Mont Blanc’s peak. With an extraordinary choice of ski slopes, Chamonix has something for all levels of skiers, while its famous cable car – one of the highest in the world, reaching the tip of the Aiguille du Midi at 3842m – offers a truly breath-taking view of the region.

The Hotel Verwall is a family run four-star hotel in Gaschurn in Vorarlberg, Austria. Surrounded by the Montafon mountains, the hotel’s authentic Austrian ambiance is present throughout, from the furniture and colours of the rooms, to the selection of dishes and South Tyrol wines served in the inhouse restaurant. A sauna, indoor pool and massage service give travellers several relaxing options to choose from after a solid day of skiing. The Montafon ski resort has 219 kilometres of marked runs, including the 14 kilometre Silvretta piste, which is a challenge even for veteran skiers. For snowboarders, on the other hand, many exciting challenges are to be found in the half pipes and rails of the snowpark Nova Park.
